Sylvain Rousseau produces his work around a deconstruction of the
consumer object speech. That is the case with his flattening of objects
or of spaces that he reproduces in their original fabric in two dimension
and that he pins against a wall, like so many imitations, denouncing
the world’s trade poverty. In spite of the triviality assumed by the
supports, Sylvain Rousseau turns his aesthete attention to the
materialism of his artwork by using marquetry methods for his flat
objects or engraving on cacti. The ingredients of the method are all there, foremost among them cactus. The plant hosts sketches of ongoing projects like a campaign journal. Thus drawing intervenes where least expected, while the mural installation Composition non magnétique by Sylvain Rousseau replays in 3D the unfolding of an abstract form. |
