By producing objects with a strong conceptual quotient, Liu Chuang uses different supports and excels at drawing and installations. Her initiatives make small events perceptible like, for example, the series Sign which consists of simple little folds of paper displayed in such a way to react to passing visitors. Formally very successful, her works are situated at the very indistinct frontier between public and private space and in this way testify to recent cultural changes in today’s China.

The two installations by Liu Chuang deal with the social reality of his big, complex and surprising country. Untitled (History of Sweat) consists of a readymade air conditioning unit which becomes a handsome baroque drawing in the gallery space. This object speaks metonymically of the sweat of all those who toil in sweatshops or factories. The French version of the installation Collecting the Property on Your Body is a unique collection of all the objects, documents and clothes taken from an unemployed person just after their arrival in the city. It is a Prévert-like jumble of an inventory of all the things owned by a person ready to sell himself in order to survive, in the hope of better days to come.
